LAZY MD ARABIANS
Bob had a genuine love for horses. He always said he would rather be with the horses than hunting, fishing, or anything else. He has been described as an avid horseman, but Bob was so much more.  He and his loving wife Ardath joined the Utah Arabian Horse Club in 1993 and within one year "Bob" was elected as the Club President. For the next 6 years, Bob served in the capacities of the President, Vice-President and as a board member.

During his presidency he worked with Alan Bargerstock as Vice-President, Carol Ayer and Mary Smith as Secretaries, and Col. Sam Starley and Kathy Huddleston as treasurers. The people who served with him on his board during those years were Linda Ovard, Rick Taylor, Ginny Cromwell, Robert England, Merlyn Olson, Colleen Parkin, Trudy Taylor, Jack Chidester, Brian Allen, Wendy Onstott, Frank McCormick, Dr. James North, Linda Werner, and Alan Allred. He has forged so many great and long lasting friendships. Bob loved the Arabian Horse
Club, loved the people, loved to serve.

Bob and Ardith's farm, Sheriff Arabians, at one time had 15 horses. Nine horses they raised from babies. They had 3 brood mares, Carrie, Starla, and Catterina. Each mare had 3 babies. Bob's monthly President's Message in the Gazette often mentioned the new babies with a friendly invitation to everyone to come see the new additions. He would let everyone know each month what was important to him, his horses, his country, his UAHC and most iportantly his loving partner Ardith. He would sign off, "Well I'd better close and get out and pay some attention to the horses" or "Better close and get my stalls picked. See you all soon." In March 1995 after apologizing for a cancelled event Bob wrote, "Hate to end on a negative note so I'm going out to the barn and visit the horses and get my spirits back up. See you all soon." He derived so

much comfort from his horses.

His monthly President's Messages give some insight into this great and humble man. Here are a few excerpts from the UAHC Gazette.

July 1994 - "I guess I am in the "pat-on-the-back" mood. I want all the members to know that your Club Officers and Board members are kept busy, working for you and the Club. Please let them know how much you appreciate their service. . . Better close and get my stalls picked. See you all soon."

Gazette April 1995 -  Bob's sense of humor always had people in stitches. When he laughed you had to laugh with him; he was so infectious. The man knew how to enjoy life. "I just celebrated another Birthday and I must say it was great. Last year we celebrated it in the hospital. The Doctors and Nurses were great but I prefer family and friends."

During Bob's last days while spending time at the hospital, he would make everyone laugh. He loved his nurses and doctors. The nurses would ask him to do something and he would crack a joke sending everyone into laughter. That was Bob, everyone loved him. He was making people smile and laugh to the very end of his time here on earth. He could make you smile when you least expected it, but needed it the most. He always made you feel like family.

A Tribute to a Great Man

On Thursday, October 8th 2009, the world lost a great man. Robert "Bob" Sheriff passed away at the age of 70.

He was loved by so many and will be missed by us all.

"If a man is ultimately measured," as Martin Luther King Jr. said, "not by where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge" then Bob Sheriff stands amongst the best of men.

He served his country, his family and his friends with great love and honor.
